Cookie Policy

How BytesCRM uses cookies and similar technologies on our own platform and through customer-embedded widgets, and what choices are available to you.

Last updated: April 24, 2026

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed in your browser by a website you visit. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel beacons. These technologies allow websites to recognize your browser across requests, remember preferences, authenticate sessions, and collect analytics data.

Cookies can be set by the domain you are visiting ("first-party") or by external services embedded on that page ("third-party"). They can be temporary ("session cookies", deleted when you close your browser) or persistent ("permanent cookies", stored until their expiry date or until you delete them).

2. Cookies on the BytesCRM Dashboard

When you use the BytesCRM application at bytescrm.app, we may use the following types of cookies and local storage:

  • Essential / authentication cookies — Required to maintain your logged-in session, prevent cross-site request forgery, and secure your account state. These cannot be opted out of without losing access to the application.
  • Preference cookies — Store your product settings such as sidebar state, theme choice, notification preferences, and display options. Blocking these may cause the product to reset your preferences on each visit.
  • Analytics and performance cookies — Help us understand how features are used, identify reliability issues, measure performance, and improve the product. These may include first-party event tracking and error monitoring tools.

3. BytesCRM Widget on Customer Websites

Customers can install a BytesCRM chatbot or lead capture widget on websites they own or operate. When a visitor interacts with the widget, it may use cookies or browser storage to:

  • Remember the visitor's consent choice (accept or decline data collection).
  • Maintain widget session state so the conversation is not reset on each page load.
  • Record engagement analytics events such as widget opens, message sends, and lead form submissions.
  • Store a session or visitor identifier used for deduplication and rate limiting.
  • Capture country-level location signals and page URL context for widget analytics reports.

Important: The BytesCRM widget consent banner, when enabled by the customer, manages visitor consent for BytesCRM widget behavior specifically. It does not automatically govern all cookies, scripts, or trackers operated by the customer's own website or other third parties embedded on that site. Customers are responsible for their broader cookie compliance.

4. Cookie Categories

The following categories apply across BytesCRM's own platform and widget deployments:

  • Strictly Necessary — Enable core functionality including authentication, security, session continuity, and fraud prevention. Cannot be disabled without breaking the service.
  • Functional / Preference — Remember user choices such as theme, language, sidebar state, and notification settings. Blocking these will not prevent access but may degrade experience.
  • Analytics and Performance — Collect aggregated data about how features are used, which pages are visited, and where errors occur. Used internally to improve reliability and features. May be managed through consent controls where applicable.
  • Widget Consent Tracking — Used by the BytesCRM widget to store a visitor's consent decision so the choice is respected on subsequent page loads within the same session or browser.

5. Third-Party Services

BytesCRM uses third-party infrastructure and service providers that may set their own cookies or use similar technologies as part of delivering the BytesCRM platform. These may include our hosting provider, authentication infrastructure, payment processor (Stripe), and error monitoring service. We do not control these providers' cookie practices and recommend reviewing their respective privacy and cookie policies.

6. Your Choices

You can manage cookies in the following ways:

  • Browser settings — All major browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies through settings or developer tools. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in to BytesCRM.
  • Private/incognito mode — Prevents cookies from being saved after the browser session ends. Previous consent choices stored in persistent cookies will not carry over.
  • Widget consent banner — If you are a visitor on a website using a BytesCRM widget with the consent banner enabled, you can accept or decline widget data collection when the banner appears. Your choice is stored locally and respected on future visits to the same site.
  • Opt-out tools — Depending on your location, you may have additional opt-out rights under applicable privacy law. Contact the website owner (for widget deployments) or us directly (for the BytesCRM dashboard) to exercise those rights.

7. Customer Responsibilities

If you are a BytesCRM customer and have installed the widget on your website, you are responsible for:

  • Determining which cookie consent framework applies to your website, audience, and jurisdiction (e.g. UK PECR, EU ePrivacy Directive, GDPR).
  • Deciding whether the BytesCRM widget consent feature, combined with your existing consent management setup, satisfies your legal obligations.
  • Disclosing BytesCRM widget cookies in your own website's cookie policy or consent management platform where required.
  • Ensuring visitors on your site have an appropriate mechanism to accept or reject non-essential cookies from BytesCRM and all other services your site uses.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we change how we use cookies, add new product features, or respond to legal or regulatory guidance. We will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page and, where changes are material, communicate them through the product or by email.
